Captivate my heart, dear Jesus
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Anna and I have this special friendship that is built on God. We don't talk often, but every time we meet, there is this closeness that will not go away even if we don't meet for a long time. I think it started when we cried together in a camp years ago. This friendship has depth. It is amazing how every time we talk, I would return home, in awe of God. Like today:

Anna has a heart for Muslims. I have a heart for Africans. We both believe God has called us to be doctors, but we know with our kind of results, we will never be able to make it to med school. So it has to be only God. Med school is a large field, and there are so many areas to specialize in. The need there is extremely great. Anna feels that hers has to do with women. I feel mine has to do with HIV/AIDS. There is still so much we have to find out about our destiny, as God reveals to us bit by bit. God never fails to amaze us.

God, use the little knowledge of medicine that we will learn, to bless the people You have called us to and meet their needs. Help us never to think that we know everything after med school, and think that if situations cannot be solved medically, they are impossible, and hence limit Your power. Use us, for we are Your instruments. We know that You are the healer. Med school may seem impossible, but You are the One who has called us, and nothing is impossible with You. You are the One with the wisdom and riches. You are the One with love and hope. We place our trust and dependence on You. We want to give You all the glory.

Sometimes, we take for granted the protection You give us from evil. The dark side is as real as the light. We brush it off lightly when we hear new Christians say that they experienced peace in their heart for the very first time. Maybe it is because we are raised in a Christian family, hence, the protection of God is always there, so we don't feel or see spirits and fear them. We become oblivious to the fact that the devil and his demons are as real to some, as God is to us. When we look at someone, we tend to look at his/her appearance and personality, how he/she talks and walks, and think that we can read the person. But we are wrong, because there may be more that is going on below the surface of that person than they let on. We must also know our standing/ position. We can't go into a temple and start praying in tongues unless we are a seasoned warrior.
"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." Eph 6:12

God, we want Your presence to be so strong in our lives, that people around us can feel it. We want to carry Your fragrance, like when we walk into a room, people will wonder what we have that they don't have. We have a hope and a future, because we know Jesus Christ.

We are on a bus. The rest of the passengers and us, are doing the same thing-- stoning/nothing. What can you do on a bus right? But not quite. Seemingly stoning, looking out the window, we are actually smiling to ourselves and enjoying the sweetness of the presence of God. How wonderful it is to be in the presence of God. Oh taste and see, that the Lord is good, for He tastes like honey in the rock.
"But it is you, a man like myself, my companion, my close friend, with whom I once enjoyed sweet fellowship as we walked with the throng at the house of God." Psa 15:13-14

Thank You Lord, for Anna.
