For God’s promise in our lives to come to pass, there must be a process, a transition.
A stretching needs to be achieved in our lives before God can bring us into something new, to a different level.
It is during times like this when we feel that God is the furthest away from us. Try as we might, He just doesn’t seem to speak to us at all. While we wait patiently for God’s promises (Isaiah 60) to come to pass, we must guard against temptations that will draw us away.
Transition-The Period Between God Giving Us the Promise and The Promise Coming to Pass
God’s promise usually does not come to pass at that instant it was given.
For example, Joseph was given an insight into his destiny in his dream but it took many years and tribulations before it came to fulfillment.
This transition period (him landing in a pit and later the prison) is critical in preparing him for his destiny.
Transition is the time when everything that we have learnt previously is put to the test.
During this transition period, we find it difficult to hear from God. The reason being, He is simply not talking to us. What will be clearly revealed is whether we have truly learnt the thing He taught us previously.
Just as in an academic examination, talking during an examination is cheating and cheating cannot reveal to us the extent of our knowledge. That is why God does not speak!
We need to produce fruit out of what we have learnt. That will ensure that we do not need to take the same test over and over again.
Transition is fruit-bearing time!
If we survive through the transition, we qualify for the promotion.
A Time of Stretching
In Matt 9:17, Jesus mentioned about new and old wineskins. No one will put new wine into old wineskins because that will cause the old wineskins to break.
They will need to be dipped in oil and stretched, in order to be used again.
Similarly, God cannot pour new wine into our lives without first stretching us. If not, we will be like the old unstretched wineskins, which will break when the new thing is released into our lives.
There is a time of preparation before God brings us to a new level. He will not pour a new thing into something that is unwilling to stretch.
It is either we pass the exam and qualify for a higher level, or we fail.
"Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift you as wheat." [Luke 22:31]
Don't doubt His promises, or think maybe you heard wrongly. He will bring His promises to pass.
